Science Week 2009 at Bega Library

15 August 2009

During Science Week 2009, Professor Ken Baldwin will give a talk and light demonstrations at the Bega Library.  It will prove to be a fascinating and engaging evening even for those of us not so "science-savvy".  There are some applications that use new devices - atom lasers - which behave in similar ways to light lasers that can be used, for example, to provide sensitive new gravity detectors to measure the presence of ore bodies under the ground.

Professor Baldwin will discuss how useful it can be to think of things both as particles and as waves and will bring an apparatus which will allow you to "hear" the click of individual photons - thereby demonstrating their quantum nature as individual particles of light.

Professor Baldwin’s talk will be held at Bega Library on Thursday, August 20, at 5.30pm.
